Bollywood icon and Netflix star Manisha Koirala shared her powerful journey of battling and overcoming ovarian cancer, at a special charity event.
The Audience with Manisha Koirala afternoon was held at the Shaw Theatre in London. It was hosted by Bradford’s own ITV doctor and author Dr Amir Khan and Fatima Patel, managing editor of the Asian Standard and Asian Sunday and Style.
The actress, who stars in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar on Netflix, flew in from Nepal, for the event.
She famously battled stage IV ovarian cancer and was on stage to share her experience and tell the audience about her life as a world-famous actress.
This special event, hosted by Ovacome, the UK’s ovarian cancer support charity, highlighted the importance of awareness, early detection, and how we can support those affected by ovarian cancer. She is gentle, kind and committed.
Victoria Clare, Chief Executive Officer of Ovacome, said: “The event went brilliantly and has enabled us to reach out into a new community with some key messages that they wouldn’t otherwise hear.

“It also enabled us to challenge the stigmas associated with ovarian cancer in a fun and light-hearted way.
“It is truly humbling to work with Manisha. She is a warrior but the best kind of warrior. The hosts Dr Amir and Fatima Patel were fantastic; they made the event magical. The audience loved the dynamic and they got all the key messages across.”
Actress Manisha previously received ‘warmest wishes’ from HRH The Princess of Wales after sharing her story.
The Princess of Wales, who herself has faced health challenges and garnered immense public support following her announcement earlier this year, highlighted how the well-wishes of others have been a huge source of strength during her treatment and recovery. The letter sent kind wishes for Manisha’s visit to the UK last year.
Manisha underwent treatment at the renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, successfully recovered in 2013 following surgery and chemotherapy.
Fatima Patel said: “It was an absolute pleasure working with Dr Amir for the first time. His warmth, energy, and popularity were evident throughout the afternoon. Ovacome truly went above and beyond to create a remarkable event, every guest left feeling uplifted and inspired.
“I’m proud that Asian Standard had the opportunity to partner with Ovacome on such a meaningful occasion.
“And of course, it would be remiss of me not to mention the remarkable Manisha Koirala. She is undoubtedly the perfect choice to be an ambassador for Ovacome. Listening to her speak with such grace, humility, and courage was deeply moving. She continues to be a shining example of strength and resilience, and it’s always an honour to be in her presence.”
This event is in partnership with Ovacome’s media partners Asian Standard and PR partners Media Hive.
Charity Ovacome is to host a charity auction running online from 15-20 July, which will include copies of Manisha’s signed memoir ‘Healed’ and an opportunity for the winning bidders to request personal messages from Manisha and Dr Amir Khan to be sent to themselves or their chosen nominee.
Victoria Clare, from Ovacome, added: “We are incredibly excited to be able to announce that we have an auction open until 10.30 am on Sunday 20 July with some unique prizes available to the highest bidders, including a personal video message recorded by Manisha herself to you or to celebrate a special occasion or person.
“Dr Amir Khan will also record a personal message. We have signed books and programmes available too. So please take a look, make a bid and share with friends, family and community.”
