Bradford to spice up street food scene with new accelerator program

Bradford’s reputation as a culinary hotspot is set to grow with the launch of BD: Food StrEATS, a new initiative aimed at nurturing the district’s next wave of street food entrepreneurs. This innovative accelerator program, developed by the In Touch Foundation in partnership with The Leap and Leeds Road Fest, seeks to empower aspiring food vendors from Bradford’s diverse communities with the tools, mentorship, and funding they need to turn their culinary ideas into thriving businesses.

What’s on the Menu for Budding Foodpreneurs?
The program will select 20 participants to receive tailored support, including training, business guidance, and access to key networks. The top 10 concepts will also receive £450 each to test their creations at a major public event, offering real-world experience in the fast-growing street food market.

The accelerator will culminate with a vibrant street food and cultural showcase on Saturday, 22 February 2025, at The Grand by Jalwa on Manningham Lane. This event will not only serve as a platform for participants to debut their dishes but also highlight Bradford’s rich culinary diversity.

A Collaborative Push for Culinary Excellence
BD: Food StrEATS is backed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Tracy Brabin (Mayor of West Yorkshire), and Bradford Metropolitan District Council. The initiative underscores the city’s commitment to supporting small businesses and fostering cultural innovation as part of its preparations for Bradford’s City of Culture 2025 celebrations.

Osman Gondal, CEO of In Touch Foundation, highlighted the program’s mission: “Bradford’s diverse culinary heritage is one of its greatest assets. Through BD: Food StrEATS, we’re giving passionate food entrepreneurs the opportunity to bring even more global flavors to our city while supporting their journey toward business success.”

Yaseen Mohammed, a key figure in the Leeds Road Fest, echoed this sentiment: “Bradford is the UK’s most entrepreneurial city and a go-to destination for exceptional food. This program, in collaboration with local businesses, will empower new talent and boost our local economy.”

Why It Matters
With its unique mix of cultures and cuisines, Bradford is ideally positioned to lead the charge in redefining the UK’s street food scene. The BD: Food StrEATS program promises to not only spotlight the city’s culinary innovators but also strengthen its reputation as a must-visit destination for food lovers.

For food enthusiasts and budding entrepreneurs alike, BD: Food StrEATS offers a chance to put Bradford’s flavor on the map. Applications are now open, and the hunt for the city’s next street food stars has begun.
