Bradford’s own world-renowned magician Steven Frayne will return to his home city this December for an exclusive UK City of Culture residency at a pop-up venue in The Loading Bay, running from Monday 1 to Sunday 7 December.
Known globally for his headline-grabbing stunts and groundbreaking TV specials, Frayne – formerly known as Dynamo – will bring a special hometown version of his live show Up Close and Magical to the city. Renamed Back Home and Magical, the performance promises audiences a rare chance to witness his illusions in an intimate setting, with the magic unfolding just a few feet away.
Frayne, who first captured public attention performing tricks on Bradford’s streets before becoming an international sensation, said returning home for the residency felt particularly meaningful.
“It’s been incredible to be part of this year’s UK City of Culture, celebrating my home city and sharing in the joy with my friends and family,” he said. “After performing to around 20,000 people in City Park for the opening show back in January, it’s exciting to do something on a smaller scale and embrace the magic that’s within the community.”
The pop-up run marks a full-circle moment for the magician, who has previously performed to sold-out arenas across the world but has always credited Bradford for inspiring his journey.
Tickets for Back Home and Magical will go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 8 October via bradford2025.co.uk.
