Organisers said the aim of the visit was to deepen political understanding within the British Bangladeshi community, promote civic participation and inspire the next generation to consider roles in public service and leadership.

Throughout the day, participants learned about the legislative process, how MPs scrutinise government activity and the role communities play in shaping policy. Many described the visit as both educational and motivating, particularly for those interested in pursuing positions in local or national politics.

Speaking after the visit, Cllr Ashraf Miah said: “This visit provided our members with a valuable insight into how Parliament operates. Strengthening political awareness within our community is essential and we are committed to promoting greater engagement across all age groups.”

Cllr Fulzar Ahmed added: “Experiences like this help build confidence and aspiration, especially for the next generation of British Bangladeshis. We are grateful to Imran Hussain MP for supporting this initiative and helping open the doors of Parliament to our community.”

The Greater Sylhet Community UK – North Region expressed its appreciation to Imran Hussain MP for facilitating the visit and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strong links between political representatives and local communities.

The organisation hopes this trip will serve as a springboard for further civic activity, educational programmes and leadership development opportunities for Bradford’s Bangladeshi population ensuring that more voices from the community are heard at every level of the democratic process.
