For many, the name Andreas Liveras is remembered in connection with one of the darkest chapters in Mumbai’s modern history. But for his granddaughter, Tanya Liveras Candy, the story of the British entrepreneur killed in the 2008 terrorist attacks is about far more than the tragedy that ended his life.
Now, almost 18 years after the attacks that shocked India and the wider world, she is preparing to share the extraordinary journey of the man behind the headlines.
Her debut narrative non-fiction book, The Vision: One Man’s Extraordinary Life and the Siege That Shocked the World, will be published by Whitefox Publishing on 23 November 2026, just days before the anniversary of the attacks.

The book tells the story of Andreas Liveras, the only British citizen killed during the November 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, tracing his remarkable rise from poverty in a Cypriot village to becoming a successful businessman in Britain and a pioneering figure in the international superyacht industry.
But at its heart is a deeply personal mission: to ensure that a life defined by ambition, determination and achievement is not remembered solely for the circumstances of its ending.
“My grandfather’s death became part of one of the defining terrorist attacks of the 21st century, but that was only the final chapter of an extraordinary life,” Tanya said.
“I wanted to tell the story of the man behind the headlines: a pioneer in the superyacht industry, and the remarkable journey that led him there.”
On 26 November 2008, coordinated terrorist attacks struck several locations across Mumbai, including the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.
The violence became an international tragedy, leaving a lasting impact on India and drawing worldwide attention to the experiences of those caught in the attacks.
Andreas was among those inside the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel as the siege unfolded.
Rather than focusing exclusively on the violence, The Vision places those final hours within the wider context of a life that crossed countries, industries and generations.
Drawing on survivor testimony, interviews, family archives and verified records, Tanya reconstructs the events surrounding her grandfather’s death while exploring the experiences that shaped the man he became.
The narrative moves between Cyprus, Britain and Monaco, following Andreas’s journey from modest beginnings to international business success.
His story is one of enterprise and reinvention, reflecting the opportunities and challenges of building a life and career across borders.
Through the family perspective, the book also explores the personal relationships, decisions and ambitions behind his professional achievements.
For readers familiar with the Mumbai attacks, the publication offers a different perspective on a tragedy often remembered through images of burning buildings, emergency responses and international headlines.
It seeks to restore an individual life to the wider historical narrative, showing how the consequences of terrorism continue to be felt within families long after public attention has moved elsewhere.
The timing of the publication is particularly poignant.
Arriving three days before the 18th anniversary of the attacks, The Vision invites readers to reflect not only on what happened in Mumbai but also on the people whose lives were lost and the stories they left behind.
For Tanya, writing about her grandfather is an act of remembrance, but also an opportunity to introduce a new generation to his achievements, character and legacy.
In doing so, she hopes to ensure that Andreas Liveras is remembered not simply as a victim of the Mumbai attacks, but as a man whose extraordinary journey deserves to be told in its own right.
The Vision: One Man’s Extraordinary Life and the Siege That Shocked the World by Tanya Liveras Candy will be published by Whitefox Publishing on 23 November 2026.
