Over 80 percent schools in West Yorkshire sign up for police led education programme

Over 800 schools in West Yorkshire have signed up for a police led education programme that seeks to raise awareness around relationships, keeping safe and legal understanding

Pol-Ed aims to provide free educational resources to teachers of children in West Yorkshire between the ages of seven and 16.

These come in the form of lesson plans which can be downloaded from the Pol-Ed website and used in whole, or in part to assist with teaching.

These resources help pupils to develop their understanding of risks, citizenship, and the law, as well as assisting with their educational progress and keeping them safe.

Some of the topics covered include consent, bullying, grooming, toxic culture and balancing freedom and the law.

Superintendent James Troisi, said: “To learn that more than 81 per cent of schools in West Yorkshire have now signed up to use the Pol-Ed resources is fantastic news.

“Our ambition is to get every school in the county on board with Pol-Ed, and our latest sign-up rate suggests that we’re well on our way to achieving this.

“We did some roadshows at schools across the county during the summer months and the feedback we received from teachers and school representatives was overwhelmingly positive.

“We’ve also had interest from other police forces in the UK who are keen to use Pol-Ed, and are in talks with several as to how they can use our product in schools in their area.”

The project is also looking at providing resources for younger children, so they can be introduced to Pol-Ed lessons as soon as they start school.
