Building on the momentum of his success, Mehmood Sultan has completed principal photography for the upcoming film “CHOP-CHOP,” shot in Scotland. The completion announcement came from the film’s press release, highlighting its evocative short drama with comedic undertones. Directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Ievgen Koshyn, known for his impact in over 80 film festivals globally, and scripted by Iranian screenwriter Amir Masoud Soheili, the film explores profound themes.

Under the production leadership of Serbian producer Andjela Jevtovic and the visual guidance of Croatian Director of Photography Antonio Pozojević, “CHOP-CHOP” is a diploma project for the Kinoeyes – European Film Masters program at Napier University Edinburgh. With a modest budget of £5,300 from the European Commission, the film is a collaborative effort featuring talent from diverse regions, including Scotland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Iran, Serbia, Croatia, Spain, Italy, and Tunisia.

The narrative of “CHOP-CHOP” revolves around a Scottish-Pakistani family, with the central plot focusing on Hamza, played by Kareem Nasif, who faces a moral dilemma when his orthodox Pakistani grandfather, portrayed by Mehmood Sultan, demands the circumcision of his grandson Idris, played by the young and talented Jashian Soni.

Anticipated to complete post-production by March 2024, “CHOP-CHOP” is set to embark on the festival circuit, exploring themes of cultural identity, generational conflict, and the immigrant experience. The film’s logline succinctly captures its core conflict: “A Scottish-Pakistani family is thrown into disarray when the orthodox grandfather from Pakistan demands the immediate circumcision of his grandson, leading to a father’s profound moral dilemma.” Mehmood Sultan’s involvement in this poignant project adds another layer to his versatile and impactful career in the world of cinema.
