‘Don’t get caught out’ warning as bin collection days change for thousands across Kirklees

The changes will be brought in from next week (w/c June 30)

A Kirklees councillor has warned residents “don’t get caught out” as changes impacting thousands are about to hit the borough.

For many homes across the district, Kirklees Council is shifting the day bins are collected. Those affected by the changes should have received a letter from the local authority setting out the updated collection days for both grey and green bins. The amendments are due to come into effect from the week commencing Monday, 30 June.

A letter addressed to residents explains: “As more homes are built across the district, and more people are working from home, everyone’s waste and recycling habits have changed. Due to this, we have conducted a review of all the bin rounds in Kirklees to rebalance collections, with an aim in providing a better service for all.

“As part of the rebalancing that has taken place, some collection days are moving. Please note this only affects your general waste and recycling.”

Councillor Charles Greaves (Independent, Holme Valley North) explained: “Kirklees Council is changing its bin collection rounds and from Monday, June 30, thousands of homes will see a change with their bins collected on a different day. Many people are affected by the changes – if you are you should have received a letter from the council saying what day your grey and green bin collections are moving to. Brown bin collections are unaffected as they are on separate arrangements.

“The changes to the bin collection rounds are long overdue and they should result in a better service for all. However, people need to get used to their new bin days and there may be some disruption as the new rounds start up.

“If you are in any doubt about when your bin needs to be put out you can check on the council’s website – don’t get caught out!”
