Bradford Teaching Hospitals opens nominations for community governors

Bradford residents are being given the chance to help shape the future of local healthcare as Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust announces six vacancies on its Council of Governors.

The Trust is inviting nominations for four public seats – one representing Bradford West, one for Bradford South, and two for Shipley – as well as two patient seats for people living outside the district who have either been referred to the Trust or care for patients who have.

The Council of Governors plays a crucial role in representing the voice of the community, holding non-executive directors to account, and influencing key decisions on how services are delivered.

Laura Parsons, Associate Director of Corporate Governance and Board Secretary, said: “The Council of Governors has an important role in making our Foundation Trust publicly accountable for the services it provides. It is important that people stand as governors so that we have the voices of our communities influencing the important decisions that we make. We actively encourage people to take part in aspects of hospital life, and this is one more way that people can get involved.”

The Council is made up of staff members, appointed governors from partner organisations, and 13 elected representatives from public and patient constituencies. To stand, you must be a Foundation Trust member, aged 16 or over, and live in the area you wish to represent.

Two online information sessions with Trust Chair Sarah Jones have been organised for those keen to learn more about the role. They will take place on:

  • Thursday 18 September 2025, 2:00pm – 3:00pm
  • Wednesday 24 September 2025, 4:00pm – 5:00pm

Anyone interested in standing for election must complete and submit a nomination form between 9 September and 5pm on 7 October 2025 via www.cesvotes.com/BTHNHS2025
