A new supermarket will be able to open for 24 hours a day – planners have confirmed

A new supermarket due to open in a former Lidl unit can open for 24 hours a day – Bradford Council has confirmed.

The store at the junction of Ingleby Road and Duncombe Road in Girlington closed its doors in February after 30 years of trading.

But earlier this month Adil Chaudry of Worldwide Foods applied to Bradford Council for confirmation that the unit could open for business 24 hours a day.

The application revealed that the business was due to be a new branch of Al Halal, which already operates several stores in Bradford.

Planning officers have said there has never been a limit on the opening hours since the supermarket building was approved 30 years ago, and so the new store could open 24/7.

A separate planning application has been submitted to build a small extension to the supermarket.

Approving the opening hours request, planners said: “The supermarket was granted consent in 1995. This approval carried no conditions limiting the operating hours of the supermarket.

“Consequently, as there are no planning restrictions relating to operating hours on the original approval there is nothing preventing the 24-hour operation of these premises.”
