Bradford lawyer wins Outstanding Achievement award in Law

Inspirational Bradford lawyer, Nasreen Karim, won the ‘Outstanding Achievement in Law’ award on Tuesday 7 March at the GG2 Leadership & Diversity awards ceremony in London.

The GG2 Leadership & Diversity Awards celebrate Britain’s most talented black, Asian and minority ethnic high achievers and highlight remarkable people who use their talents for the greater good. The organisers described Nasreen as “an outstanding lawyer who has broken down barriers and stereotypes all her life”.

After qualifying as a solicitor, Nasreen established a law practice which today is one of the leading firms in Bradford. She has been a passionate campaigner for equal opportunities, especially for women and has played a key role at the local chamber of commerce to promote minority businesses and as a governor of Bradford College.

For over 20 years, Nasreen has been instrumental in putting Asian businesses on the map when it comes to economic affairs in the West and North Yorkshire region. Disappointed at the lack of representation on the local chamber of commerce body, she formed the chamber’s fist ever ethnic minority business committee and later went on to become director of West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.

Speaking to Asian Standard, Nasreen said “I am both honoured and humbled to have been awarded the GG2 Leadership and Diversity Award for Outstanding Achievement in Law. My journey was not a conventional one, but I would not have had it any other way. There were more downs than up but I sincerely believe that this is what moulded me and drove me.

“My firm, which I founded in 2004 would not have reached this milestone had it not been for the hard work and dedication of not just myself, but also my ‘Platinum family’ who shared my vision. I especially want to thank Paul Stock who gave this single mum a training contract whilst I was still at university. Roll on twenty-five years and he now works with me in my firm.

“As a firm believer in the power of diversity and inclusion, I am particularly grateful to be recognised for my efforts to promote these values within the legal profession. It is my hope that this award will inspire others to continue pushing for a more equitable and just society.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the judges of the GG2 Leadership and Diversity Awards for this recognition, as well as to my colleagues, friends, and family for their unwavering support. I look forward to continuing to work towards a more inclusive future for all.”

The GG2 Leadership and Diversity Awards, takes place annually. This year ethnic minority women who have broken barriers and challenged prejudice in their chosen careers were among the top winners.

Asian Standard would like to congratulate Nasreen along with all of this years’ GG2 award winners.
