Every single candidate fighting for residents’ votes at Kirklees’ local elections on 4 May has been revealed.
A third of all 69 seats across the borough are up for grabs plus an additional seat in the Ashbrow ward. Of these 24 seats, Labour currently holds 11, Conservative five, Liberal Democrats four, Independents three and Greens one.
The council currently has a Labour majority (36 seats), Conservative (18 seats), Liberal Democrats (eight seats), Greens (three seats), Holme Valley Independents (three seats) and other Independents (one seat). Several councillors will be defending their seats including three cabinet members – Cllr Mus Khan, Cllr Carole Pattison and Cllr Paul Davies, as well as Deputy Leader of the Conservatives Cllr John Taylor.
Six council members will be standing down this year – Cllr Fran Perry (Labour, Ashbrow), Cllr Mohammad Sarwar (Labour, Crosland Moor and Netherton), Cllr Lesley Warner (Independent, Colne Valley), Cllr Kath Taylor (Con, Mirfield), Cllr Paul White (Independent, Holme Valley North) and Cllr Aleks Lukic (Independent, Dewsbury East).
To take part in this year’s vote, electors must bring a valid form of photo ID such as a passport or driving licence. Residents without one of the accepted forms of ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate but must do so by 5pm on 25 April.
