Former Manningham councillor has passed away

A Labour-turned-Respect Party Councillor has passed away at the age of 47.

A former Bradford Councillor has passed away at the age of 47.

Asma Javed was a Labour-turned-Respect Party Councillor for Manningham before resigning from the party in 2015.

After defecting from Labour, Ms Javed joined the Respect Party, a left-wing socialist party created by Salma Yaqoob and George Galloway in 2004.

Ms Javed ran for councillor in Halifax in 2015 under the Respect Party but failed to secure a seat.

Ms Javed was a solicitor and partner at Reiss Solicitors, practising family, immigration, and personal injury law.

People have paid their respects to her on social media. One person said: “She was a lovely person, full of character.”

Sharaz Hussain said: “A kind request for duas please, Allah SWT grant her Jannah Firdous ease all her test.

“Also, dua for her children. Allah SWT grant them ease and guide them on haq and nothing but haq, that they become a means of a charity for their beloved mother ameen.

“Allah SWT protect them from all evil. Sum ameen.”

She was also a governor for Iqra Primary School in Manningham.

She is the daughter of Jaji Mirza Javed, sister to Asam, Asif, Yousaf, Waqas, and granddaughter to the late Haji Mirza Muhammad Ayub.

It is currently unknown how she passed away.

Update: Her funeral is being held at 4.39pm today at Jamia Hanfia Masjid, BD8 8AW.
