Improvements to an app used by West Yorkshire bus and rail passengers will make it easier to buy tickets, according to those behind the project.
Leaders at the region’s Combined Authority have signed off on a scheme worth more than £500,000 to boost the mobile version of the Mcard.
A report on the scheme said the changes would enhance the information provided to passengers, widen its ability to offer concessionary fares and include improvements to “how users purchase tickets”.
The Mcard operates similarly to London’s Oyster card and can be used on buses and trains across West Yorkshire. An app for the digital version of the card was launched in 2020 and has been used nearly 11 million times this year, according to WYCA figures.
Randall Ghent, WYCA’s project lead for the Mcard mobile app, said the money would be used to “improve the overall experience” of using it.
Speaking at a meeting where the scheme was signed off on Thursday, he said: “It’s an increasingly important retail channel for customers to easily get on bus and rail.
“This money will allow the Combined Authority to establish the app as the best source of bus information and ticketing in West Yorkshire.”
