Local company offers unique Yoga sessions to tackle health inequalities in Kirklees

Unique yoga sessions are being offered by Umbrella Yoga, a small, local company with a growing community. Designed to help tackle health inequalities across Kirklees, Umbrella Yoga deliver small-scale inclusive yoga sessions for everyone.

Yoga, which finds its roots in India, is a combination of physical exercise and meditation aimed at both, physical and mental well being of the body.

Supporting asylum seekers and migrants in Kirklees

The sessions are available for people with additional mental and physical health needs as well as residents form all backgrounds including asylum seekers and migrants. Umbrella Yoga offer uplifting sessions, promoting confidence, wellbeing, resilience, and a sense of belonging. They impact not only on our direct participants, but on the people and communities that they are a part of, as they take their sense of calm and wellness to other aspects of their lives.

Ellie Firth, Founding Director said: “After being awarded a grant from Kirklees Council we are now able to offer a more localised yoga sessions, in particular within areas of lower socio-economic backgrounds and areas with high proportions of migrants and asylum seekers. This funding means we are able to continue to offer these sessions, gives residents continuity in their yoga practice and be part of a stable and caring community.”

New sessions launched in North Kirklees
Umbrella Yoga session are now running in Ravensthorpe, Heckmondwike, Batley and Thornhill. Sessions are open to everyone but please register online.

  • Monday, 10am- Greenwood Centre, Ravensthorpe
  • Tuesdays ,10am- Brighton street Community Centre, Heckmondwike
  • Tuesdays, 1pm- Trinity Centre, Batley
  • Wednesdays, 6pm- Thornhill Lees Community Centre
