By Fatima Patel and Sharaz Dutt

Harpreet Kaur is proving her winner’s status, using Lord Sugar’s investment to bring her sweet treats to the streets of Bradford with the opening of brand new
flagship store for dessert business, Oh So Yum.

Last Saturday (20 August) dozens flocked to the grand opening of Bradford’s first Oh So Yum Store, which included stars from series 16 of The Apprentice and former Big Brother celebrity couple The Javed’s.

Harpreet won the latest series of The Apprentice, bagging a £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar after the 12-week process.

The business, which is also co-owned by Harpreet’s sister, Gurvinder Kaur, sells sweet treats including waffles, crepes and the brand’s famous cookie cups.

To celebrate the official opening Harpreet and her sister Gurvinder took to the busy street of White Abbey Road in a celebratory song and dance with dhol players. The Apprentice celebrities and fans joined in as crowds cheered the sister duo, who then went on to cut the ribbon to officially open their flagship store on one of Bradford’s most busiest Asian shopping destinations.

Asian Standard spoke with The Apprentice star, Akeem Bundu-Kamara, in between his many selfies with fans, to describe what he thought of the Bradford launch.

“To be in Bradford for the launch of Oh So Yum is fantastic. The venue is incredible, you can just see the attention to detail. I think it’s just fantastic to see that from the TV show what can actually be created and established. I think that’s absolutely incredible.”

He went on to declare that as a big fan of Biscoff, he bought some of Oh So Yum desserts online. “Along with the Biscoff milkshake I would also order a strawberry and Nutella crepe. I don’t know how you could not order the strawberry and Nutella crepe” He confessed.

Store Manager, Hannah Sundas, who deals with Oh So Yum online orders and ordering stock shared how amazing it is to be working for Harpreet and Gurvinder. The Huddersfield woman said: “Harpreet is like an elder sister. She is so down to earth. I’ve worked in many places and honestly speaking Guv and Harps are the best employers ever.”

Cousins Amina and Safa who travelled all the way from Dewsbury to try out the desserts,

also had great things to say about Oh So Yum. Amina shared that although she had to queue, she feels it was definitely worth the wait. “I ordered the red velvet cookie cheesecake, and It was absolutely delicious” she said.

Her cousin, Safa who is a big fan of The Apprentice added: “I have always been a big fan of The Apprentice and I always knew that Harpreet had something about her. That drive that passion. She is a true inspiration to young people, especially opening up a store here in Bradford – It’s a big thing and people will look up to her, because the food is amazing. She has done an amazing job”

Having two stores already, Huddersfield and Leeds, Bradford seemed
like a natural progression for sisters Harpreet and Gurvinder, who hope
to keep the sugar rush going by giving people a taste of what is to
come from their business: indulgent waffles, delicious shakes,
signature cookie cups and sweet success!

“It made sense to set up in Bradford” Harps explains, “I’ve had lots
of customers wanting me to set up over there. I can’t wait to see what
everyone thinks and I’m so excited to see the location flourish.”
Opening until Midnight, seven days a week, the bright pink store is
truly unmissable and unforgettable.

With big plans for the future, the opening is simply the first pitstop
on the road to stardom for this entrepreneur. “I will be looking to
create a range of mini desserts which will be great for events,
corporate and hospitality”, the CEO follows, mapping out the future
plans for the business, “so watch this space!”
