Rare and Sacred: Kaaba’s Kiswa and Islamic artefacts to be displayed in Bradford

One of the most sacred objects in Islam, the Kiswa, the cloth that covers the Kaaba in Makkah, is set to visit Bradford on Saturday, offering a rare opportunity for the community to witness its beauty up close.

Organised by Kiswat Al Kaaba and Tauseef Malik of Mr T’s, in partnership with the Council for Mosques and Bradford Council, the event will take place at City Hall, where the Kiswa and a collection of other significant Islamic artefacts will be on display.

The Kiswa, is a black silk cloth embroidered with gold and silver Quranic verses, is draped over the Kaaba, the sacred structure at the heart of Islam’s holiest mosque. Each year, it is replaced with a new covering during the annual Hajj pilgrimage, while the old fabric is cut into pieces and gifted to dignitaries, museums, and organisations worldwide.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the chance to see a section of this revered cloth, as well as an array of other historical and religious items, including:
• Kaaba Door Cover (Recent & Historical)
• Medina Door Cover
• Locks & Keys of Maqam-e-Ibrahim, the Kaaba, and Rawdah Chamber
• Inner Green & Red Kiswa of the Kaaba
• Qandeel & Samadi Pieces from the Kaaba
• Rawdah Section Internal & External Pieces
• And many more rare and sacred artefacts!

Speaking about the event, the organiser said:
“I know how important these artefacts are to Muslims across the world. With Ramadan around the corner, I see this as a blessing, to bring these priceless and sacred objects to the people of Bradford. Many haven’t had the chance to visit Makkah or Saudi Arabia, and this is a unique opportunity to experience the Kiswa and other significant pieces up close. We welcome individuals, families, and groups to visit.”

The exhibition will take place at Bradford City Hall on Saturday, 22 February, from 11 AM to 6 PM.
