Plans have been submitted to build 21 new homes on a long-vacant site near Batley town centre.
The land off Heaton Grange has remained undeveloped for at least 18 years and was previously granted planning permission for 19 homes.
However, a new application submitted to Kirklees Council on 13 July 2026 proposes increasing the development to 21 properties.
The scheme has been put forward by developer Jack Lunn Ltd and would see a mix of detached and semi-detached houses built on the 2.17-acre site. According to planning documents, the development would include 14 two-bedroom homes and seven three-bedroom properties, each with its own driveway.
The site was previously marketed as a freehold residential development opportunity with full planning permission for 19 houses. Despite the land being listed as “under offer”, revised plans have now been submitted seeking approval for two additional homes.
It is not yet clear whether the properties would be sold on the open market or form part of an affordable home ownership scheme.
The application is currently open for public consultation, with residents able to submit comments until 7 August 2026.
If approved, the development could bring 21 new households to a site that has stood empty since at least 2008.
