PLANS to turn a mill in the middle of a residential street into back-to-back houses will go before a planning committee this week.
Carlton Mills is a long empty industrial building on Carlton Street, Haworth.
Earlier this year Taylor Roche Ltd submitted a planning application to convert the building into four, two-bed back-to-back homes, and members of Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee will discuss the plans at an online meeting on Thursday.
Members will hear that 22 people have objected to the plans, saying there was a lack of parking on the street, and that existing residents would prefer just two houses, not four.
Planning officers have pointed out that homes would generate less traffic and require fewer parking spaces than if the building re-opened for industrial use.

A report to the committee says: “The building is unused, but if it were to be reoccupied and used for its permitted industrial use there would be a significant increase in disruption to the highway network and the surrounding residents.
“It is likely that were the building to be used again for its permitted use this would cause potentially greater disruption than the proposed residential use.”
A previous application for the site was approved in 2011. That would have seen the mill demolished and three houses built in its place. However that development never went ahead.
Members have been advised to approve the plans.
