Motorists across Kirklees are set to pay more to park from Wednesday 1 April, as the council rolls out another increase in charges across its car parks.
The latest rise will see fees at all council-managed spaces, both on-street and off-street, increase by around three per cent, in line with inflation. Prices have been rounded to the nearest five or 10 pence, meaning most drivers will see costs go up by between 5p and 20p depending on how long they stay.
As a result, all-day parking will now cost £6.90, up from £6.50 introduced last year.
The move follows a significant price hike in April 2024, when Kirklees Council increased charges for the first time in 15 years, citing inflationary pressures dating back to 2009.
Short-stay parking has also been affected. A 45-minute stay has risen from £1.65 to £1.70, while 90 minutes will now cost £3.50. The new prices apply across key town centre locations, including Corporation Street, Cross Church Street and Northumberland Street in Huddersfield.
One exception is the car park at Colne Valley Leisure Centre, where charges will remain unchanged due to an existing legal agreement with Kirklees Active Leisure.
The latest increase comes just weeks after changes to resident and visitor permits came into force on 1 February, 2026. Residential permits rose from £35 to £36.05, while visitor permits increased from £60 to £61.80. Discounts remain available for Kirklees Passport holders.
Full details of the updated charges are available via Kirklees Council’s website.
