Lyca Radio expands into West Yorkshire, connecting more listeners through digital radio

For generations, Asian radio has offered a familiar voice, a connection to music, culture and community. As listening habits evolve, Lyca Radio is extending that connection through a growing network spanning traditional broadcasting and digital radio.

The Lyca Radio Network has announced its arrival in Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds, just days after its full-scale launch across Birmingham. Available on full-scale DAB across the three West Yorkshire cities, the expansion brings the service to listeners in the region for the first time.

The move builds on Lyca’s acquisition of Asian Sound Radio in 2023, which became Lyca Radio Greater Manchester in April 2024. Its extension into West Yorkshire marks another step in the network’s growth across Northern England, linking its established North West presence with new audiences across the Pennines.

For listeners, that growth means wider access to a radio service built around Asian programming. For the network, it reflects an approach that combines the familiarity of traditional radio with the reach of digital broadcasting.

Lyca Radio Greater Manchester continues to broadcast across the North West on 1377 AM and 963 AM, alongside DAB coverage throughout Greater Manchester. The new West Yorkshire service adds to that digital footprint, bringing Lyca into more homes, workplaces and cars across the region.

Raj Baddhan, Chief Executive Officer of Lyca Radio Network, said the launch responds to demand from listeners.

“The launch of Lyca Radio in Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds represents an important milestone in our growth strategy. Following the success of our Greater Manchester service, we have seen strong demand from listeners across West Yorkshire for a dedicated Lyca Radio presence.

“This expansion enables us to extend our award-winning programming to a wider audience and further strengthen our footprint across Northern England.”

Beyond the North, Lyca serves audiences across Greater London and the Midlands, including Birmingham, Leicestershire, Coventry, Derbyshire, Wolverhampton and Shropshire.

Together, these services point to a changing Asian radio landscape: one in which established community connections can reach across regional boundaries through digital broadcasting.

The West Yorkshire launch gives that ambition a local presence. Listeners in Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds can now tune in to Lyca Radio on DAB, joining a growing audience connected by a shared appetite for Asian radio.
