More than 80 women and girls came together to compete in a Mum and Daughter Sports Day.
The event organised by the Inspirational Women’s Foundation in collaboration with Carlton Bolling saw more than 80 women take part in over four hours of activity to mark International Women’s Day (IWD).
IWD celebrated on 8 March, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. The day aimed to normalise mothers and daughters playing sports together when so often it is usually fathers taking their sons to football lessons or other sports sessions.
The women and girls enjoyed traditional sports day competitions such as an egg and spoon race, and a three-legged race.
The mothers and daughters also took part in mini-games of football and netball organised by IWF coaches, an obstacle course put on by the Army, and a fun group game of rounders coordinated by Rounders England.
The IWF runs the IWF Sports Club, with daily activity sessions across the district.
The IWF Sports Club classes are all run by professional coaches, ranging from football, badminton, and netball, rounders, tennis, Zumba, cricket, climbing, golfing, and more.
The IWF Sports Club is open to all women over the age of sixteen, from across the Bradford district, but also from further afield if they can get to the venues.
Women are invited to join for an exclusive membership fee costing just £10 a month where they would have access to a variety of different sports sessions.
Membership applications are currently closed and will restart after the end of Ramadan in May.
Managing director and editor of Asian Standard and founder of the Inspirational Women Foundation, Fatima Patel, said: “I am delighted at the success of our IWD Sports Day.
“The mums and daughters thorough enjoyed themselves. There is definitely an appetite for women and girls in sport providing resources and spaces are available.
“I am extremely grateful to all our partners who without the sports day couldn’t have been the success it was. I am looking forward to hosting this again next year.”
Head of school at Carlton Bolling, Mohammed Azum, said: “As head of school at Carlton Bolling, I am delighted to have helped facilitate more than eighty women and girls play sports and bond as part of International Women’s Day.
“There were a lot of Carlton Bolling students who attended the event and commented on how well the event had been organised and are already excited about the prospect of a similar event running in the future.

PC Kiran Pullan from West Yorkshire Police’s Positive Action team, said: “I really enjoyed meeting the women and girls from the IWF and hosting some of the events during the day.
“Meeting people is at the heart of the work that we do at the Positive Action team, and we look forward to attending their events in the future.”
