Bradford Royal Infirmary’s neonatal unit is set to benefit from a £10,700 donation raised by the local Dawoodi Bohras community.
The Dawoodi Bohras are Muslims, mainly from East Africa and the Indian subcontinent, who have called Bradford home since the 1970s. The community has expanded over the generations and like Bohras all over the world, strives to play productive roles in all societies where they live.
The money was raised through a walk, on 1 October, organised to commemorate the 80th birthday of the global leader of the faith, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin.
The walk saw over 150 volunteers walk a combined 1,053km, with many local businesses supporting the fundraising efforts.
The donation will be used to expand family accommodation at the neonatal unit so more parents can stay close to their babies when they are sick.
The unit cares for more than 500 pre-term and poorly babies every year who come from across the Yorkshire region.
Lisa Williams, Head of Fundraising at the Bradford Hospitals Charity, said: “We would like to thank the Bradford Community of the Dawoodi Bohras for all their hard work, time, and effort in organising this event to support Bradford Hospitals Charity Big Neonatal Campaign.
“An incredible amount raised and the kind donations and support will take us even closer to achieving our vision of providing the very best possible care, experience, and facilities to parents when their poorly babies are being cared for in our unit.”
