Charitable West Yorkshire Police officer Dharmesh Mistry nominated for prestigious National Diversity Award

A charitable West Yorkshire Police officer, Dharmesh Mistry has been shortlisted for the Positive Role Model: Race, Faith, or Religion Award at the 2024 National Diversity Awards, in partnership with HSBC UK. From over 90,000 nominees, Dharmesh stands among 125 finalists recognised for their dedication to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Dharmesh, 54, has served with the West Yorkshire Police since 2005 and currently works as an Internal Quality Assurer, ensuring compliance with ethical standards. Despite living with arthritis, he is deeply involved in volunteer work, supporting vulnerable communities across Leeds and Bradford. His initiatives include aiding the homeless through projects like Homeless Hampers and the Bradford Curry Project, which provides essential support to those in need.

A trustee of the Bradford Hindu Council and the temporary Chair of the West Yorkshire Hindu Police Association, Dharmesh also plays a vital role in the National Police Chiefs’ Council Race and Religion Team and the Leeds Council Strategic Faith Leaders Board. He recently launched the New Leeds Faith Trail, offering community members a firsthand experience of diverse faith practices.

Previously nominated in 2019, Dharmesh expresses pride in being recognised once again. “Volunteering has helped me through difficult times and allowed me to make a positive difference. Being considered a role model for my efforts is an incredible honour.”

Also shortlisted in the same category is Bradford’s Nazim Ali who too has an incredible body of work, which will make choosing a winner a very tough decision.

The winners will be revealed on 4 October, 2024, at the 13th National Diversity Awards in Liverpool’s stunning Anglican Cathedral. Hosted by Clare Balding, CBE, the event celebrates individuals and organisations dedicated to creating a more inclusive society.
