Lord Mayor to receive donation to Lord Mayor’s Appeal after Sport Campaign Against Racism event

The Lord Mayor of Bradford will receive a £500 donation for her Lord Mayor’s Appeal Fund next week.

The Lord Mayor Cllr Beverley Mullaney will receive a cheque for £500 on Wednesday 23 October at 1:30pm in the Lord Mayor’s Rooms.

The money comes from a cricket match in August held at Bradford Park Avenue Cricket ground, which the Lord Mayor attended.

The organisation ‘Sport Campaign Against Racism’, which champions the importance of the power of sport in bringing communities together and having a positive impact on their lives, organised the event.

Dr Ikram Butt will be presenting the cheque accompanied by 7 other representatives.

The Lord Mayor Cllr Mullaney said, “I would like to thank everyone who took part in this cricket match. This event has not only raised funds for my appeal but also highlighted the importance of sport as a power for good.

“Sport can have a huge impact on people’s lives and local communities, and this cricket match has helped to raise vital funds and to show that sport can be hugely beneficial in shaping lives and helping us all to get more active.”

The Lord Mayor’s Appeal 2024-25 which is called “The Lord Mayor’s Ambition Academy” is aimed at supporting those wishing to work in the creative industries by helping them to access grants through funding raised by the appeal.

Following a series of fundraising events and donations, grants will be made available to individuals, schools, and community groups within the Bradford district to help those who need a helping hand as they take that first step on the road to success.
