New larger waste bins with a recycling section have arrived in Bradford city centre.
The bins, funded by the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF), have a much greater capacity than the older bins and a section for recyclable items.
The recycling section of the litter bins is for residents and visitors to deposit their glass and plastic bottles, drinks and food cans, paper, drink cartons, cardboard, yogurt pots and tubs, foil, junk mail.
The size of the bins will mean they will not need to be emptied as frequently, freeing staff to do other work to spruce up the city centre ahead of the 2025 City of Culture year and longer term.
Bradford Council is also hoping to secure Government funding for more of these bins in other parts of the District.
Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Portfolio holder for Healthy People and Places, said: “These new bins look very smart and because they are bigger, they will hold more waste and are easier to use.
“The recycling section will hopefully encourage more people to consider what they are disposing of can be recycled and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. It also brings us into line with other large cities in the country that already provide this facility.”
