Drop-in event in Harehills offers cost-of-living support for Leeds’ most deprived communities

People from some of the city’s most deprived communities are invited to get advice on coping with the cost of living.

Experts will be on hand at a drop-in event at the Compton Centre in Harehills.

People facing tight household budgets this winter can get help with benefits and energy efficiency at the session on Thursday, 28 November.

Organisations including Money Buddies and the Leeds Health Awareness Project will be available between 4pm-6pm at the Harehills Lane centre.

The event has been organised by the council’s Inner East Community Committee.

Councillor Luke Farley, Labour member for Burmantofts and Richmond Hill, said: “My colleagues and I see day-in, day-out the impact of rising prices, stagnant wages, and benefits unable to support those in the most desperate need.

“Working with council staff and third sector partners, we have developed this drop-in session to help and advise people living across inner east Leeds, and to offer support for those people who need it.”

Cllr Farley said Harehills, Burmantofts, East End Park, Gipton, Killingbeck and Seacroft were in the top five most deprived areas of Leeds.

He added: “Even people with reasonable incomes can struggle during the winter months, so I hope that everyone will be able to make use of this event.”
