Cookery school to open in new city centre market

A new cookery school aimed at teaching people how to prepare healthy, affordable meals is set to open at the soon-to-launch Darley Street Market.

The Food Savers Cookery School, based in the market’s fresh food hall, will be run by Bradford-based charity Inn Churches.

The school will host a variety of courses and workshops for community groups and schools, as well as open-access sessions available for anyone to book.

Designed to boost confidence in the kitchen, the sessions will focus on healthy eating, food safety, and a wide range of cooking methods and techniques. The initiative also aims to help participants reduce food waste and save money by turning leftovers into flavourful, nutritious meals.

Emphasising low-salt, low-sugar and low-fat recipes, the school will promote practical, sustainable cooking that is both health-conscious and cost-effective.

Soraya Overend, from Food Savers Cookery School, said: “We want to ensure that everyone has the chance to gain hands-on cooking experience, supported by friendly advice on recipes, ingredients, shopping, nutrition, and seasonal local food.

Having our cookery school based at the new Darley Street Market gives us the perfect platform to do this. We’re really excited and can’t wait to get started.”

Darley Street Market officially opens to the public on 12 July, with a weekend of celebrations planned, including food demos, live music, and family-friendly activities.
