Jannik Sinner completes a spectacular comeback to defeat Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon men’s final

For the first time in his career, Sinner wins Wimbledon against the defending champion Alcaraz.

Jannik Sinner was crowned as the 2025 men’s singles winner, after he defeated defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final. This year’s runner-up won the title in 2023 and 2024, beating Novak Djokovic in both finals.

Alcaraz was chasing a third title in a row, but Sinner was aiming to win his first Wimbledon title in his career. The 23-year-old suffered defeat against Alcaraz in the French Open, only 35 days before the Wimbledon final. The odds were stacked against the world number one, as Sinner had lost all of his previous five encounters against the Spaniard.

It was a rollercoaster of a tournament for Sinner, which threw everything at him. In his quarter-finals clash against Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov, the world number one trailed by two sets to one, but advanced to the semi-finals due to an injury to his opponent.

In the semi-finals, he took on the runner-up for the previous two tournaments, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic. The Serbian was looking to win his eighth Wimbledon singles title and his first in three years. Despite being a runner-up in the previous two competitions, Djokovic had reached the final in all of the last six Wimbledon tournaments.

But Sinner overcome the vastly experienced Novak Djokovic to set up a final against Carlos Alcaraz, just one month on from their Grand Slam final face-off in France.

The Italian now has three of the four Grand Slam wins in his career, as he targets a win at Roland-Garros to complete the set. In the final of Roland-Garros this year, Sinner suffered defeat against his opponent in the Wimbledon final.

The final began by the reigning champion winning the first set 6-4, putting Sinner on the back foot and giving Alcaraz an early advantage. But from the second set onwards, the game changed in the favour of the Italian.

The second, third and fourth sets were all won by Sinner, by a score of 6-4. The 23-year-old had secured his maiden win at Wimbledon and stopped Alcaraz from winning his third Wimbledon title in a row.

Sinner and Alcaraz look like they will both be at the top of tennis for years to come, with Sinner (23) and Alcaraz (22) both young but have already shown so much promise in the game. The pair has won all of the last seven Grand Slams with Sinner winning four and Alcaraz picking up three wins. The two have also won the most singles Grand Slams for players born in the 2000’s, highlighting the start of a new era which could be dominated by the current world number one and two.

The next major tournament is the U.S. Open, which was won by Sinner last year. The newly crowned Wimbledon men’s singles winner will look to secure his third Grand Slam win of the year and defend his title at the U.S. Open, which he won last year.
