Threads of Grace: From Roots to Routes with First Bus

The much-anticipated Threads of Grace: Power of You fashion show is back and this time, it’s taking its cultural journey even further with First Bus as the official travel partner.

The collaboration couldn’t be more fitting. With this year’s South Asian Heritage Month theme focusing on Roots to Routes, who better to take the route of cultural fashion and community celebration than the people who keep our city moving?

Taking place on Sunday, 31 August, under the open skies at Cartwright Hall in Lister Park, the show will once again blend fashion, identity, and charity into one unforgettable night.

Fashion that tells real stories

This is no ordinary fashion show. Each model brings a personal story to the runway, community champions, local leaders, women overcoming illness or injury, styled in designer pieces reflecting their personality, culture, and individuality.

Bradford’s own Bombay Stores will return with their signature flair. Sidra from the store explained:

“This isn’t just about fashion trends. It’s about real people, real journeys, and celebrating the diversity and beauty of our community through what they wear.”

Connecting communities to culture

With First Bus now on board as travel partner, the show symbolises the journeys of heritage, identity, and togetherness.

Mubs Mahmed, Community and Social Value Partner at First Bus, said: “Connecting communities to leisure and culture is a key element of the services we provide in the city.

“We’re delighted to be involved with the show for the first time and encourage everyone to see bus travel as the obvious and sustainable choice to get there.”

This summer, First Bus has introduced a special Bradford Weekender ticket enabling a group of five people to travel all day for £10. “This is a great value way to get to the show and back and will help reduce traffic, which benefits everyone using the roads,” added Mubs.

Charity at the heart

As always, Threads of Grace: Power of You goes beyond fashion, raising vital funds for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Ovacome, the ovarian cancer charity.

Victoria from Ovacome shared why events like this matter:

“Awareness saves lives. A £10 ticket can help someone access life-changing support in their own language, when they need it most.”

A celebration of culture, courage, and community

Despite July’s rain cancelling the first attempt, the enthusiasm never faded. Personalities like Dr Amir Khan, Rubina Niazi of Bradford Aunties, culture champion Richard Dunbar, and our own Editor Fatima Patel will take to the runway, showcasing styles from hijabs to plus-size couture – every look a story of courage, culture, and confidence.

So, come along, let’s continue the celebrations of South Asian Heritage Month, and be part of a night where fashion meets purpose, and roots connect to routes.

‘Threads of Grace: Power of You’ – Sunday 31 August, 8–10 PM, Lister Park, Bradford. Tickets £10.

Funds raised will support Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Ovacome.
