Council welcomes news that free activity and food for children will continue for at least three years

Bradford Council has welcomed news that Government will fund free holiday events and food for children for at least three more years.

This week it was announced that the Government would invest £600 million to extend the national Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme for another three years.

HAF schemes offer free activities in the school holidays to children and young people who get benefits-related free school meals or have special educational needs or disabilities.

This summer the national programme has funded dozens of events across the Bradford district.

Responding to the announcement that the scheme will run for another three years, Councillor Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s executive member for education, employment and skills, said: “It is very good news that the Government has extended the funding for the HAF programme for three more years.

“Our HAF schemes have been hugely popular, offering some of the most vulnerable children in the district the opportunity to get active and enjoy some free outdoor fun, spend a relaxing time with their families and to get a free healthy lunch.

“The HAF programme is a great way of supporting young people’s wellbeing, as well as developing their skills and confidence which can only help them in the school year ahead.”
