“Crime scene” in city centre as bags of rubbish are dumped

A section of a Bradford city centre street has become a “crime scene” after bags of waste were dumped there.

Rubbish bags, used clothing and other waste have been dumped on the pavement on Barry Street, just off Sunbridge Road.

The waste has now been identified as a crime scene by Bradford Council officers, who have covered the waste with warnings that the owner will face a £400 fine if it isn’t removed.

It says officers have sifted through the waste to collect “evidence” as to who the waste belongs to.

The labels on the waste say: “Crime Scene – dumping rubbish is a criminal offence.

“£400 fixed penalty fine.

“THE RUBBISH HAS BEEN SEARCHED AND EVIDENCE HAS BEEN REMOVED.

“If this is your waste, remove it immediately to avoid further action being taken. If you have any information about who is responsible for this waste please contact us.”

When the Local Democracy Reporting Service came across the crime scene on Tuesday morning there were waste bags, a padded envelope, soiled clothing and the box of a Tesco finest cured meat pizza.

In recent years Bradford Council has adopted a policy of leaving crime scene tape or notices on waste and leaving in in place for several days.

Officers have said this is better at getting the message across that fly tipping is not acceptable more than collecting the waste as soon as it is dumped.
