Bradford Council earns £611,000 from auctioning ‘assets’

They plan to sell off over 150 “assets” over the coming years in a bid to raise £100m to help balance its finances.

Numerous Council properties have been sold at a property auction – but two prominent lots failed to find any buyers.

Bradford Council plans to sell off over 150 “assets” over the coming years in a bid to raise £100m to help balance its finances.

A number of these properties went under the hammer at an online property auction this week.

These included empty houses, plots of land and the ownership of buildings rented out on long leases.

Six Council owned assets were listed in the Pugh Property Auction on Tuesday and Wednesday, with four selling and two failing to sell.

The four Council assets that were sold will bring in a total of £611,000 for the cash strapped authority.

They include:

52 Cliffe Road, an empty house near Peel Park that has an umbrella hanging from the ceiling of one room. The property had a guide price of £45,000 but sold for £83,000.

Salts Wharf on Ashley Lane in Shipley. The Council owned office building is sub let to numerous businesses and brings in £14,000 a year. It had a guide price of £150,000 but ended up selling for more than double that – £358,000.

2 Stephen Crescent, a semi-detached property that is part way through a scheme of redevelopment. It had a guide price of £130,000 and sold for £140,000.

Land at Hainworth Road in Keighley, land that “predominantly comprises grassland and tree cover.” It had a guide price of £15,000 but sold for £30,250.

But two bid lots failed to sell.

A 14-acre plot of land on Exmouth Place, off Bolton Road, is included in Bradford Council’s draft local plan. The land is allocated as a future housing site where up to 75 homes could be built.

The lot was described as “A greenfield site in a sustainable location within the urban area.

“The site is suitable for residential development which will need to be subject to sensitive design, retention of trees and resolution of any existing public access issues.”

The land had a guide price of £225,000, but failed to sell.

58-68 North Street and 1-7 Bow Street, Keighley, a parade of Council owned commercial premises in Keighley town centre was also listed for auction.

All the units in the parade are occupied and generate a total annual rent of £53,000.

The parade had a guide price of £485,000, but also failed to sell.

Details of the buyers have not been disclosed.
