Bradford hosts safety forum for women and girls to share views on city and park safety

A drop in event is being held on Tuesday 29 October from 12:30 to 3pm at The Broadway, Bradford, for women and girls to share their views on safety in Bradford City Centre and local parks.

The event will highlight ongoing work to support vulnerable people, particularly women and girls, and give them the chance to share their views and perceptions of safety and access to support. These views will help us understand how women and girls feel and what, if anything, they like to see change.

The event is led by researchers from the University of Leeds and the University of York. These academics are working on different research projects across the UK which seek to support police and local services to address the needs of local communities. The researchers are working with local partners from Bradford for this event, including the Women and Girls Lead for Bradford Council.

Participants perceptions will also support the ESRC Vulnerability & Policing Futures Research Centre’s project ‘Bradford mapping research: service provision for vulnerable groups in contact with the police’ and work by University of Leeds on creating safer parks. Both the projects seek to better understand the safety of women and girls in public places and the challenges and opportunities for the future.

Cllr Kamran Hussain, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety said, “I would urge women and girls to come along to the event and share their views.

“Keeping all residents safe is an important priority for the council and it is important that future work reflects the reality that is experienced by local people. Only by working together can we plan and work towards a safer district for everyone.”
