Community heroes from the Bradford area were honoured at Bradford Council’s Bradford West Community Recognition awards ceremony which took place on Wednesday 1 March. The winners were made up of a mixture of residents, volunteers and businesses in line with Bradford Councils ‘People Can’ initiative.
There were two kinds of awards: the Legacy awards honoured those who served the community over many years, some of which have now retired. Mr Naqvi Shah received a legacy award for community work he has taken part in since the 70s.
Fazlul Haq celebrated 40 years of service to the community in 2022 for his work with Bangladeshi Youth Organisation.
The second type of awards were the Honorary awards – which celebrated the work of community groups and organisations. Winners included Farnham Residents Association; a relatively new group based in City Ward, focused on key issues such as environmental challenges, litter, fly tipping and working with the youth to develop the coming generations.
The event, thought to be the first of its kind, took place at Manningham Mills, Bradford. It celebrated individuals and organisations who have gone above and beyond to support and enrich the local community and made valuable contributions to the area over many years.
Among the special guests invited to attend are West Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Alison Lowe, Lord Mayor of Bradford Cllr Martin Love, Council Leader Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, Imran Khan, Cllr Abdul Jabbar and Cllr Mohammed Amran Chair of Bradford West Area Committee.
Bradford West Area Coordinator Arshad Mahmood commended all the groups and community members in attendance for their hard work and dedication in Bradford West.
Cllr Amran said: “These awards are a great way to celebrate the valuable contributions which have been made by individuals and organisations in Bradford West. We hope that they will show that what they do is valued and appreciated, as well as inspiring others to support their areas.”
Asian Standard would like to congratulate all of the winners and thank them for their hard work they do to benefit the City of Bradford.
