Building earmarked for demolition could now be retained and converted

A former community centre and church once earmarked for demolition might now be spared as new plans for the building were submitted.

A planning application to demolish Fred’s Place off Sticker Lane and replace it with four business units was approved by Bradford Council in 2022.

The building had been empty for over a decade before the application was submitted, and while planners said it was “regrettable” to lose the building, it was not listed or protected.

But in the two years since planning was approved, work never began, and the building remains standing.

Now a new planning application for the site has been submitted to Bradford Council by ADA Rentals Ltd & MKH Capital Ltd.

This application would retain the building, converting it into nine apartments that would be a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom flats.

The scheme would also include nine parking spaces.

A decision on the new application is expected in July.
