Plans to turn a derelict site on one of Bradford’s main roads into a new business park could finally be moving ahead.
And once fully occupied the site is expected to bring 26 full time jobs to this area of the city.
In 2020 the crumbling New Inn pub on Manchester Road was demolished after years of standing empty.
That same year a planning application to redevelop the vacant site to create a new business park was approved by Bradford Council.
But the development, proposed by Bradford Trident, was never started. The site, next to Lidl, remains empty, and is currently overgrown and blighted by fly tipping.
Now Bradford Trident has submitted a fresh application for the site, to build 10 light industrial units.
The development would be known as Ian Greenwood Business Park, named after the late Bradford Council leader.
The application says the business park is expected to create 26 full time jobs, and 31 parking spaces would be created on the site.
Trident, a community Council made up of representatives from the Park Lane, Marshfield and West Bowling areas, first drew up the plans to bring much needed new businesses and jobs into the area, as well as cleaning up a prominent vacant site.
The planning application says: “The site has remained vacant and largely unused for a considerable period of time, resulting in a visually poor and underutilised parcel of land occupying a prominent gateway location on one of Bradford’s principal approach routes.
“The proposed development will deliver significant economic benefits through the regeneration of a vacant and underutilised site.
“The scheme will provide approximately 1,100m² of modern industrial and commercial floorspace across ten flexible units, creating opportunities for local businesses to establish, expand and invest within Bradford.
“The units have been designed to accommodate a wide variety of employment uses and will help address demand for modern small and medium-sized business accommodation within the district.
“The development will generate employment opportunities both during the construction phase and throughout the lifetime of the completed scheme.
“In addition, the investment will support the local economy through increased business activity, expenditure and associated supply chain benefits.
“By bringing a long vacant site back into productive use, the proposal will make a positive contribution towards Bradford’s economic growth objectives.”
A decision on the application is expected in October.
