“Business has taught me resilience, but it’s in the personal journeys of women rising from despair to empowerment that I’ve truly learned the meaning of strength.”

For more than 20 years, I’ve welcomed women from all walks of life into my beauty salon in Bradford. I’ve worked with celebrities, from world heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder to India’s famed Nooran Sisters, but it’s the everyday women, the mothers, daughters, and sisters of our own community, who’ve left the deepest impact on me.

At first, it was about skin, style, self-care. But over time, it became something more. I began to notice that many of the women who came in for treatments were carrying invisible burdens, emotional pain, loneliness, and silent struggles with their mental health.

Whether it was divorce, family breakdowns, single parenting, childhood trauma, or pressure from marriages abroad, their stories unfolded gently during facials, massages, and quiet moments between treatments. The salon, it turned out, wasn’t just a place for beauty. It was becoming a safe space for healing.

“A listening ear can be life-changing”

We often underestimate the power of simply listening. For some clients, I was the first person they had opened up to in years. Others arrived on antidepressants, overwhelmed by grief, betrayal, or chronic illness. But after being heard, really heard, and receiving a little guidance on things like diet, daily routines, and mindfulness, I saw their spark begin to return.

A caring touch can be deeply therapeutic. I’ve held hands during tears, offered space to breathe, and celebrated the little wins with women trying to rebuild their confidence from the ground up. What I offer is not clinical therapy, but emotional sanctuary.

Since 2013, I’ve quietly supported my clients behind the scenes, offering advice and emotional care wherever I could. But now I’ve taken it a step further. Every Wednesday from 10am to 6pm, I dedicate my time to offering free one-to-one mental health support for women in need, directly from my salon space.

It’s not tied to any paid treatment. There’s no obligation to book services. The time is yours. We talk. We listen. You might stay for a coffee or share a light lunch if your appointment overlaps. What matters most is that you know – you’re not alone.

“This work isn’t about business, it’s about purpose”

Running a business has taught me a lot about resilience, but it’s the personal journeys that have taught me the most about strength. I’ve seen women rise from despair to empowerment, and it’s my honour to walk beside them, even for a short while.

So, if you or someone you know is struggling, with stress, grief, mental fatigue or loneliness, please reach out. We all deserve support, and sometimes, that first conversation is the beginning of something transformative.
