Bradford Council has approved an additional £100,000 to fund roof repairs at the Grade I listed Ilkley Manor House after costs increased by 50 per cent.
The project was originally expected to cost £200,000. However, a report presented to the council’s executive revealed that the estimated cost has now risen to £300,000.
Council leaders agreed to provide the additional funding as part of a wider package of capital spending proposals considered at a meeting on Tuesday.
According to the report, the increase followed the completion of an intrusive survey, which uncovered further issues requiring repair.
The report stated: “Following the completion of an intrusive survey, additional issues have been identified that need rectification. These findings are part of the planning conditions, and issues identified must be addressed.”
The council said the work is necessary to protect the historic building and ensure it remains accessible to the public.
Officials added that the repairs will help secure the future of Ilkley Manor House, which is described as the oldest property in the council’s portfolio.
The report said: “The works will ensure that Ilkley Manor House, the oldest property in the Council’s portfolio, will remain open to the public and continue to be enjoyed by all visitors.”
