Housing benefit payments are set to be delayed due to Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
Middlesbrough Council has announced that people in receipt of the benefit and expecting it on Monday will receive it on Tuesday, 20 September. The government has announced that it will be paying 14 of its benefits and credits that are due on Monday on Friday, September 16.
Queen Elizabeth’s funeral is set to take place on Monday and the day will be marked by a bank holiday, which was confirmed earlier this week. The country is currently in a period of national mourning and there will be seven days of royal mourning after her funeral.
On the bank holiday, schools, most shops and some pubs are set to close as a mark of respect. Bin collections and postal services will also not be running.
The Queen died on Thursday, 8 September and is currently lying in state in Westminster Hall. Queues are snaking along the River Thames as members of the public wait patiently to walk past the coffin.
At the time of writing, Southwark Park had reached capacity and entry to the queue was set to be paused for six hours. Earlier this morning, it was estimated that people would need to wait 14 hours to reach Westminster Hall after they joined the 4.9-mile queue.
If the below benefits and credits are due on Monday the government will make payment on Friday, 16 September:
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance

- Income Support
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
- Jobseeker’s Allowance
