A new mini market can open in a unit between the new Bradford Live venue and the Alhambra Theatre after plans were approved.
34 Great Horton Road is also on the doorstep of Bradford College and has most recently operated as a restaurant and mobile phone store.
This spring, a planning application to convert the building, which has a small ground floor space and larger basement space, into a shop/off-licence was submitted to Bradford Council by Moslem Jafari.
The unit is just yards from Bradford Live, the ÂŁ50m, 3,000+ venue.
The application said: “The opportunity provided by the proposal provides qualitative improvements to the area.”
It said the building is in a “poor condition” and in need of modernisation. It said it will be given a “new lease of life”.
The plans include improvements to the frontage of the unit.
Approving the application this week, planning officers said: “The external signage of the building stipulates it was formally a phone and vape shop and a restaurant, but these uses appear to have ceased with the building appearing to be vacant.
“The proposal will bring an existing building within the city centre back into use.”
The proposed opening hours are 6am to 2am.
