Family of Tayyab Akram to celebrate his birthday by feeding the community on Friday

It would have been the youngster's 11th birthday.

The family of Tayyab Akram will feed the homeless in Bradford city centre on Friday, 19 November in celebration of what would have been his 11th birthday.

The youngster tragically died in hospital on 19 October after being hit by a van on Wakefield Road a few days prior on 13 October at around 7pm.

Tayyab, who was in year six, attended Bradford Academy and was described as a “fun-loving, popular, and a funny young man” by the school’s executive head principal, Tehmina Hashmi in an open letter to parents.

Tayyab was fun-loving, popular, and funny.

Hundreds of people from across Bradford turned up to mourn the little boy at Hanfia Masjid, in Carlisle Road, Bradford, for the janazah, followed by a burial service at Scholemoor Cemetery last month.

Tayyab’s family will feed the homeless on Friday outside Campbell House, 201 Sunbridge Road, BD1 2HQ between 6.30pm – 8.30pm.

They will be giving away hot food, fresh fruit and drinks to anyone who needs it.

A family friend, Abdul Satar, who has helped the family organise the event said: “It would have been the youngster’s 11th birthday so his parents want to celebrate by feeding the homeless and anyone who needs food.”

Mr Satar added: “Usually the family would through Tayyab a birthday party but this year they want to share his birthday by helping others.”

Mr Satar also mentioned that the community has been very supportive so far of Tayyab’s family. Earlier in the month, it was announced that a local man, Jimmy Slater, and his family, donated money to Charity SOS to build a community well in Dodoi village kabuki district in Uganda for Tayyab.

Mr Satar who is a trustee at Bradford Community Kitchen, also mentioned: “We will be feeding outside the Cambell House hostel but we have been in touch with other hostels who will be sending people over that need our help.”

Mr Satar concluded by saying: “Keep little Tayyab in your prayers and the family as well.”
