On a monumental day in English football history, England celebrates its first major tournament trophy inside Wembley Stadium, as the Lionesses beat Germany 2-1 on Sunday 31 July in the Euro 2022 final.
England’s Lionesses secured their first ever European Championship triumph with a hard-fought, extra-time victory over Germany in the London Stadium on Sunday evening.
Scoring the opening goal of the final, England substitute Ella Toone made a phenomenal finish over Germany’s Merle Frohms, while Chloe Kelly netted the deciding goal in the 110th minute.
Thousands of fans are celebrating in Trafalgar Square today, with the Queen having led tributes to the victorious Lionesses on securing England’s win of the UEFA Women’s Championship cup, sending a message of congratulations in which she called them “an inspiration”.
The significant triumph comes 56 years after England’s men beat West Germany in the 1966 World Cup final, the only previous major trophy won by a men’s or women’s England senior team.
Delighted by the win, which affirms their move in the right direction, a family law firm become proud sponsors of Carlton Bolling girls football kits.
With hopes to raise the profile of women with careers in law and increase participation of women in sport, Sarah Khan-Bashir founder of the Bradford law firm SKB Solicitors said:
“As an all-female legal firm, we wanted the girls football team at Carlton Bolling to have relatable role models and have a sense of pride in their aspirations.
“By sponsoring their team, we hoped that it would inspire them to keep pursuing their dreams and hopefully follow in the footsteps of the women’s England Team”.
A presentation delivered by the founder, Sarah Khan-Bashir MBE and Anisa Aziz from SKB Law firm, which is located in Hope Park Business Centre, took place on Tuesday 19 July 2022, as the pair of solicitors delivered a talk to the students.
The sponsorship came about after the award-winning school managed to secure a deal with the Yorkshire Asian Business Association for its Rugby kits, which is a sport that according to the Head of school, Mohammed Azum an underrepresented sport in the local area.
Gaining a sponsorship for the school sports team was highly valued by the students at Carlton Bolling, as they were quoted saying “Having a sponsor on your kits, like all the big teams on TV, means that you are important and that somebody outside of school also cares”.
Due to the limited opportunities for girls in the BD3 area, there is also a huge weight on girls’ sport participation in school.
However, the girls football team have been participating in local competitions and were also privileged to have Mollie Sharpe, Crystal Palace player of the year, work with them.
After the agreement that SKB would sponsor the girls football team was made, the law firm offered to host visits from the school to their academy.
Anisa Aziz, a solicitor at the firm, who practices family law with a particular interest in the division of complex finances following divorce, is also a keen footballer, visited the school to formally present the kits to the girls.
A year 8 footballer said:
“It means a lot to have a reputable law firm from Bradford sponsor us, it shows that we are important”.
Whilst a year 9 footballer and a goalkeeper thanked the law firm for their gifts and said, “We look forward to wearing our new kits during the next season, I also have ambitions to work in law, so I now know I can have a career in both sports and law”.
The Head of the School Mr Azam commented “Thank you to Sarah for her generosity but most importantly her genuine interest in our girls reinforcing our ethos and vision that there are no glass ceilings for our students”.
Thus, a new era beckons not only for the Lionesses on their triumphant victory, after the momentous Euro glory, but also for the Carlton Bolling girls football team, as the sponsorship aims to help them strive toward a similar feat.
