Work is well underway on the development of three blocks of industrial units and a 408 square metre restaurant off Barkerend Road on a long empty site next to Barkerend Mill.
Plans for the development, approved in 2022, said the site would create 100 jobs and “put Bradford back on the map.”
Now developer Fraz Investments has provided more details on what some of the units will be used for.
One of the conditions of the approval was that the industrial units would need to shut at 6pm.
Last year the company applied for permission to extend the opening of some units to midnight – in line with the opening hours of the planned restaurant.
But this application was refused by Bradford Council – with planners saying no reason had been given why five industrial units would need to open until midnight.
Now the company has returned with a second bid to extend the hours of five of the units – this time giving more detail why.
They say these units will be taken on by the eventual restaurant operator – who has yet to be revealed.
The units will be used for a mix of food production, storage and office and prayer space.
The application says: “The proposed occupier of the restaurant also intends to occupy Units 3 – 7 for uses ancillary to the operation of the restaurant.
“Units 3, 4 and 5 are intended to serve as food storage and production, ancillary to the restaurant and in accordance with the approved use.
“Units 6 and 7 are intended to house the offices, staff room, prayer room and further storage needed for the efficient and effective operation of the restaurant.
“As a result of the intended uses, there will be no activities carried out that would cause detriment to any residential amenity.
“It is critical for the success of the restaurant that the opening hours for these units be varied to match that of the restaurant.
“It will ensure that all restaurant employees are able to access these ancillary facilities at all times the restaurant is proposed to be operating.
“Furthermore, the prayer room can be used for religious purposes by restaurant users and restaurant staff. It is typical for religious prayers to be conducted late evening.”
A decision on the application is expected in March.
