Summer is coming and Bradford Council wants to make it one to remember as we all emerge from our lockdown hideaways. To that end they have announced Summer Unlocked, a program of events designed to make summer 2021 one to remember. The only thing they need is ideas and that is where you come in.
In a post on their website they say:
“We want Bradford District to come back to life in our outdoor spaces that have been important to so many of us during lockdown. We want to animate the spaces where we have found solace – our public parks, our streets and neighbourhoods, our moors and our gardens and even our shopping arcades and public spaces.”
Working with The leap they want to create a captivating but safe program of events and activities which can bring the community together. With the prospect of widespread vaccination in site and the UK inching along its roadmap out of lockdown, they want communities to come up with ideas events which could take place during July, August and September.
They say they will fund ‘inspiring, joyful, creative projects’ of all sizes and across the district which will encourage visitors to come to Bradford.
Ideas could be anything from temporary performance spaces, outdoor screenings in unexpected locations temporary exhibitions or hyperlocal tours. The only provision is that they have to be safe and respect COVID safety guidelines.
To apply you must demonstrate the event can take place between July and September, and are agile enough to adapt to whatever social distancing guidelines are in place at the time.
Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Artistic idea – quality/creativity – 30%
- Experience and capability – 10%
- Engagement/audience experience – 20%
- Value for money – 20%
- Alignment with the themes and vision for the programme – 20%
Successful applicants will need to carry out a risk assessment, and may find themselves featuring as part of the Council’s and Leap’s press releases.
