Have your say on plans to improve Manchester Road

Drop-in Information Session Wednesday, 2 April 2 PM – 7 PM Mayfield Centre, Broadway Avenue, Bradford, BD5 9NP.

Bradford Council, in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, is inviting the
public to give their views on proposed improvements to Manchester Road, one of the city’s
key transport routes.

The proposals form part of the South Bradford Park & Ride Scheme, which has undergone two previous consultations. In response to public feedback, the council is now delivering the project in stages, starting with the Manchester Road Bus Improvements Scheme.

What’s Changing?
The planned upgrades aim to reduce congestion, enhance public transport reliability, and
make the area safer and more accessible for residents, commuters, and visitors. Key
proposals include:

● New and extended bus lanes – to improve journey times and make bus travel more
dependable.
● Safer pedestrian and cycle crossings – making it easier to navigate the busy road.
● More trees and greenery – to enhance the local environment.
● Formalised parking spaces – providing clearer and safer parking options.
● Automatic bus lane enforcement – keeping traffic flowing efficiently.

Why Does This Matter?

Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning, and Transport, emphasised the importance of these changes: “These proposals will make bus travel more accessible and reliable, while reducing congestion and improving walking routes. This is about creating healthier, better-connected neighbourhoods, and we encourage everyone who regularly uses Manchester Road to share their views.”
