Have your say on the future of local transport network in West Yorkshire

People are being encouraged to have their say on the future of the local transport network in West Yorkshire to ensure that services and investment matches the public’s priorities.

Over the next few years, the region is set to introduce a publicly-run, franchised bus network, as well as a mass transit system, and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s new Talking Transport events will give people the chance to shape the future of transport in their region.

Information will be available on how the Combined Authority is committed to working with local councils to improve the transport network for everyone across the region. This includes continued improvements to bus, active travel, rail and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, as well as the introduction of a publicly-run bus network and a mass transit system.

The meetings will take place in Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Halifax over January and February, and will bring together both regional transport chiefs, as well as local authorities in those areas.

Further events will be planned for each of the five districts later this year.

Attendees will get to hear what is being done to improve transport locally and across West Yorkshire, and to ask questions and share their experiences of getting around the region.

A West Yorkshire-wide online meeting will also take place in February.

Cllr Peter Carlill

Deputy chair of West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transport Committee Cllr Peter Carlill said: “Our five local councils and the Combined Authority are working tirelessly to make sure we have a better-connected region that works for everyone.

“As part of this, we must hear about the experiences of as many members of the public as possible, and to get their opinions about the plans we have and the work we are doing – only then can we make sure we are creating a transport system for everybody.

“The coming years are crucial for West Yorkshire, and we encourage as many people as possible to sign up and come down to these events.”
