Inclusion High on the Agenda for North East Business

The Great Annual Savings group have signed on to be headline sponsors for the Asian Business Connexions Annual Awards Dinner, taking place on 14th October 2021. The prestigious event is held every year to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of Asian businesses and individuals to the social and economic development of the North East.

Originally founded in 2012 to provide business cost savings to companies in the North East, GAS has since grown to become a nationally renowned provider and one of the fastest growing companies in the UK. Their proven commitment to social, cultural and economic support of the North through years of community and charity work make them the perfect headline sponsor for the ABC Awards.

Asian Business Connexions has expanded to cover the entire Northern Powerhouse area since it was founded in 2009, promoting inclusion and opportunity across the area and beyond. The awards recognize the achievements of businesses and individuals across the private, public and third sectors. The event is an opportunity for the entire North East community to celebrate and support each other.

This is the third year in a row that the Great Annual Savings group has sponsored the event, including the 10th Anniversary celebrations in 2019 and the virtual Awards Night last autumn in the midst of the pandemic. This year’s event will once again be in-person making this ceremony even more special as attendees come together to celebrate – many for the first time since COVID-19 restrictions were fully lifted – and to re-connect as a community. Official reports show that the North East of England was particularly badly affected by COVID-19 and lockdowns so this chance for celebration will be greatly appreciated by all attendees.

To promote their involvement with the event, GAS Partnership Director, Phil Andrew, joined ABC founders Ammar Mirza CBE and Jalf Ali on their hugely popular Spice FM radio show, Weekly Show Business to discuss GAS and their motivations for getting involved with ABC.

“We got involved with ABC 4 or 5 years ago,” Mr Andrew said, “though we were just playing a small part we quickly realized how important that inclusivity and diversity was across the community and to our business.

In business, you’re either moving forward or you’re going backward and to do that you’ve got to have a very diverse workforce and you’ve got to be inclusive because we’re all learning from each other.”

The Great Annual Savings group (GAS) will be sponsoring the extremely respected Lifetime Achievement Award. Last year’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner (which the Great Annual Savings group also sponsored) was Krishan Kant Attri MBE, Hindu Chaplain to the Armed Forces and volunteer leader of the Newcastle Hindu temple, the year before the award was won by Dr Hari Shukla, who was awarded an MBE, OBE and CBE for his work on race relations and uniting communities.

The full list of ABC Awards 2021 nominees was published last week on the Asian Business Connexions website and features a range of extremely deserving individuals. Not least in the Lifetime Achievement Award category.

The support of the Great Annual Savings group for Asian Business Connexions and especially the ABC Awards Dinner is a perfect example of the celebration of inclusivity and the promotion of North East businesses that the awards night is designed to celebrate.
