Keighley’s Cliffe Castle Park to celebrate 75th anniversary

A Bradford District park will celebrate three quarters of a century of providing families with a green oasis with a free family event on Saturday.

Cliffe Castle Park in Keighley turns 75 this year and Bradford Council have got together with members of the local Keighley community and Bradford 2025 to throw a big Birthday Bash to celebrate.

The park is currently hosting The Beacon, a pop up arts venue that is part of Bradford’s City of Culture celebrations, and that venue will host some of the activities at the event.

The celebration takes place from noon until 6pm on Saturday 9 August.

In the past decade the park has undergone a ÂŁ4.5m Lottery funded refurbishment.

The work included a recreation of the park’s Victorian glass palm house, complete with a new, 26-tonne dome, a new cafe, replacement aviary and a pond and water features.

This Saturday the fun will be centred around the Beacon where people will be able to meet the characters from Statuesque, a walkabout act that brings to life some of the statues found in parks around the Bradford district including Bracewell the Dragon the mascot of Cliffe Castle.

There will be a family-friendly workshop to make your own parade creation, and a carnival parade led by a drumming squirrel, for people to show off what they have made.

Local Bradford Dhol drummers Punjabi Roots will be performing with their signature bhangra beats and The Rock Choir who will bring a party vibe with their uplifting voices and contemporary songs.

Yorkshire viral music sensation ADMT (also known as Adam Taylor), will also be taking to the stage. He went viral last year with his song North (Have you ever been to Yorkshire?).

All afternoon Cliffe Castle will be alive with culture and heritage as well as food, dancing including a Bollywood dance workshop, play activities, entertainment and art for this free event.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places said: “Cliffe Castle holds a very special place in the hearts of those from Keighley and beyond. Turning 75 during the district’s year as UK City of Culture 2025 is the perfect opportunity for people to come together and celebrate this amazing space.”
