Kirklees families receive “fantastic news” of secondary school offers

This follows as over 90% getting their first choice of secondary school.

Many Kirklees families will be delighted this school offer day, with over 90% getting their first choice of secondary school.

After an anxious wait, families are today (3 March) finding out which secondary school their children have been accepted into. In total, 5427 applications were submitted to Kirklees Council for children set to start or transfer to secondary schools this September.

Every family that applied was offered a school place, of which 4902 (90.3%) secured their first preference, while 334 (6.2%) and 72 (2.2%) were allocated their second and third preferences.

Cllr Amanda Pinnock, Cabinet Member for Education and Communities, expressed her delight at the figures: “This is fantastic news for local families, with 97.8% receiving a place at one of their preferred schools.

“It’s particularly pleasing that, year on year, the number of families securing their first preference is consistently high.

“I’m proud of the quality of our schools. The transition to secondary school is a significant milestone and I wish the very best to all those students as they continue their educational journey in September.”

The council has highlighted its vision for education as part of ‘Our Kirklees Futures’, seeking to ensure all learners can access a high-quality education, with opportunities to reach their full potential.
